Appeal and crime prevention message regarding the theft of fuel.

North Yorkshire Police are investigating the theft of diesel fuel from plant machinery in the Melsonby area. 

Three quarters of the fuel has been stolen between Monday 16th of March and Thursday the 26th of March 2026;  thieves have then returned sometime between the 26th and 31st of March to steal the remaining quarter of the tank of fuel. 

The machinery was parked in an private yard in the vicinity of Melsonby, near to the Highways Depot.

Please be aware that this is the second theft of fuel in close proximity to the Durham border reported to North Yorkshire Police in the last two days.

Please be mindful to secure vehicles, external fuel tanks / fuel stores; and review your security arrangements.
